CLARK ART INSTITUTE SCREENS
THE LAST PICTURE SHOW
Williamstown, Massachusetts—On Thursday, April 17, the Clark Art Institute concludes its Small Town film series with a screening of The Last Picture Show (1971) at 6 pm in the Manton Research Center.
Set in 1951 in the fictional Anarene, Texas, The Last Picture Show considers lives cobbled together in the absence of hope. Teenagers Sonny (Timothy Bottoms) and Duane (Jeff Bridges) navigate friendship and fate, their trajectories intersected by the viper-like Jacy (Cybil Shephard). Open secrets govern the place, and not even the movies stand a chance. Perfect in the small details and resonant with the big questions, The Last Picture Show is director Peter Bogdanovich’s magnum opus. Based on a semi-autobiographical novel by Larry McCurty. (Run time: 1 hour, 58 minutes)
Free. Accessible seats available; for information, call 413 458 0524. For more information, visit clarkart.edu/events.
