CLARK ART INSTITUTE HONORS CENTENNIAL OF WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE BY PARTICIPATING IN NATIONAL FORWARD INTO LIGHT ILLUMINATION

(Williamstown, MA)—On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, the Clark Art Institute will join a national initiative celebrating the centennial of women’s suffrage by illuminating the façade of its building in purple and gold lights, the official colors of the suffrage movement.

Organized by the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission with the support of the National Endowment for the Arts, the Forward into Light campaign marks the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, which secured women’s constitutional right to vote. The Clark will join hundreds of other institutions across the nation in this public art project honoring the historic suffrage slogan, “Forward through the Darkness, Forward into Light.”

Cultural institutions, libraries, and civic buildings across the nation will be lit in purple and gold to mark the centennial occasion. For information on the Forward into Light project, visit womensvote100.org/forwardintolight

The Clark’s white marble Museum Building will be illuminated at 6 pm on August 26, 2020 and will stay lit throughout the evening.
