CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO BROADCAST LONDON NATIONAL THEATRE PERFORMANCES

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute will air a selection of HD broadcast performances from London’s National Theatre on Saturdays at 1:00 pm in the Clark auditorium, starting in October.
On October 5, see an encore presentation of the Tony Award–winning production The Audience, starring Academy Award winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) as Queen Elizabeth II. For sixty years, Queen Elizabeth II has met with each of her twelve prime ministers in a private weekly meeting known as “The Audience.” From the old warrior Winston Churchill to Iron Lady Margaret Thatcher and finally to David Cameron, the Queen advises her prime ministers on all matters, public and personal. Through these private audiences are revealed glimpses of the woman behind the crown and the moments that shaped a monarch.

For ten years, the National Theatre Live program has brought the best of British theatre to cinema screens around the world. Using state-of-the-art filming techniques and camera direction tailored to each play, National Theatre Live captures every moment of the stage production. Multiple cameras and seamless editing reveal nuances of actors’ performances through close-ups and the full scope of action through sweeping wide shots of the stage. Recorded live, the broadcasts at the Clark are shown on an encore basis to accommodate weekend scheduling.

ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Opened in 1955, the Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver, and early photography. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
