Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute announces its participation in the statewide ArtWeek initiative, held April 26–May 5. ArtWeek celebrates creativity in an affordable and accessible way for everyone who lives in and visits Massachusetts. The award-winning, innovative festival features hundreds of unique and creative experiences that are hands-on, interactive, or offer behind-the-scenes access to arts and culture.
Daily ArtWeek activities at the Clark include painting en plein air with complimentary paint kits and “Clark Soundscapes,” a program pairing a special Spotify playlist with art. On Thursday, May 2 from 1–4 pm, Curatorial Assistant Kristie Couser hosts a one-day pop-up display in the Manton Study Center for Works on Paper, where visitors can view a selection of prints, drawings, and photographs from the permanent collection.
ABOUT ARTWEEK
Presented by Highland Street Foundation and produced by the Boch Center, ArtWeek began in Boston in 2013 and now serves more than 100 towns across Massachusetts as the signature nonprofit community program of the Boch Center. In 2019, the festival will feature nearly 600 events, of which seventy percent are free.
ArtWeek works to spotlight how the creative economy is thriving in Massachusetts by offering unique and affordable neighborhood-based events that provide increased access to art, culture, and creativity. Through community, artistic, and media collaborations, the festival provides experiences in dance, folk and traditional arts, fashion, media arts, spoken-word, poetry, writing, contemporary visual arts, music, opera, theater, design, film and much more. ABOUT THE CLARK
The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. Opened in 1955, the Clark houses exceptional European and American paintings and sculpture, extensive collections of master prints and drawings, English silver, and early photography. Acting as convener through its Research and Academic Program, the Clark gathers an international community of scholars to participate in a lively program of conferences, colloquia, and workshops on topics of vital importance to the visual arts. The Clark library, consisting of more than 275,000 volumes, is one of the nation’s premier art history libraries. The Clark also houses and co-sponsors the Williams College Graduate Program in the History of Art.
The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm; open daily in July and August. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID. Free admission is available through several programs, including First Sundays Free; a local library pass program; EBT Card to Culture; and Blue Star Museums.
