STORY SLAM AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE FOCUSES ON WOMEN’S WORK

Williamstown, Massachusetts—The Clark Art Institute, in conjunction with Pastor Mark Longhurst of the First Congregational Church of Williamstown, presents a free story slam on Friday, June 22 at 7 pm. The event will be held outdoors on the Clark’s Fernández Terrace and is open to the public. No reservations are required.

The story slam is held in celebration of the Clark's summer exhibition, Women Artists in Paris: 1850–1900, on view June 9–September 3, 2018. Works by women artists who came to the nineteenth-century capital of the art world to paint and study, despite restrictive constraints that banned them from entering the École des Beaux-Arts, inspire the theme of the story slam: women’s work. Members of the Williamstown community and beyond are invited to hear and tell stories about inspiring or pioneering women.

On the evening of the event, names of people interested in sharing stories are chosen at random, and those selected are invited to tell a five-minute story. A panel of judges provides feedback, and prizes are awarded. Light refreshments are available for purchase.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark, which has a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide, is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. Admission is $20; free year-round for Clark members, children 18 and younger, and students with valid ID.
