CLARK ART INSTITUTE TO HOST BOOK CLUB INSPIRED BY GILDED AGE

June 13, 2017

Williamstown, MA—In celebration of the summer exhibition, Orchestrating Elegance: Alma-Tadema and Design, the Clark Art Institute hosts a summer book club focusing on three novels set in or inspired by the Gilded Age in New York. All sessions are free, but reservations are required. To reserve, visit clarkart.edu or call 413 458 0524.

The book club meets on the last Wednesday of the month at 7 pm in June, July, and August in the reading room, located in the Manton Research Center. Clark staff members facilitate discussion of Edith Wharton’s The Age of Innocence (June 28), Mark Twain’s The Innocents Abroad (July 26), and Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray (August 30), making connections to Orchestrating Elegance and artist Lawrence Alma-Tadema’s design of an elaborate, elegant music room for American industrialist Henry Gurdon Marquand.

The book club is free and open to the public. Wine and sparkling water are available for purchase. Books are available for advance purchase in the Museum Store, located in the Clark Center.
