‘I, CLAUDE MONET’ TO AIR AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Exhibition on Screen and award-winning director Phil Grabsky present the film I, Claude Monet, a fresh look at one of the world’s favorite artists, at the Clark Art Institute on Sunday, April 9 at 3 pm in the auditorium. Using letters and other private writings, I, Claude Monet reveals new insight into the man who not only painted the picture that gave birth to Impressionism, but who was also perhaps the most influential and successful painter of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Despite this, and perhaps because of it, Monet’s life is a gripping tale about a man who, behind his sun-dazzled canvases, suffered from depression, loneliness, and even suicidal thoughts. Yet the film also reveals the artist’s humor, insight, and love of life, personified in the glorious depictions of his garden at Giverny.

Shot on location in Paris, London, Normandy, and Venice, I, Claude Monet is a cinematic immersion into some of the most loved and iconic scenes in Western art.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
