FREE SUNDAY AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE CELEBRATES DUTCH PAINTINGS EXHIBITION

February 23, 2017

Williamstown, Massachusetts—“Triple Dutch,” an installment of the Clark Art Institute’s First Sundays Free program, will be held Sunday, March 5 from 1–4 pm. Discover the art of the Dutch Republic three ways: Be one of the first to see the exhibition An Inner World: Seventeenth-Century Dutch Genre Paintings, make a still-life drawing, and enjoy a special performance of period music. Admission to the galleries is free all day.

An Inner World features seven exceptional genre paintings by Dutch artists working in or near the city of Leiden in the seventeenth century. Genre paintings, or scenes that take everyday life as their subject matter, flourished in the Dutch Republic in this period. Explored through the theme of an inner world, the works in this focused exhibition represent figures in interior spaces and individuals in moments of study, contemplation, and quiet exchange.

This program is supported by funding from the officers and employees of Allen & Company, Inc.
