FREE FILM SERIES “COLORS OF JAPAN” CONTINUES AT CLARK ART INSTITUTE

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Revel in the colorful beauty of Japan on Sunday, February 26 at 1:30 pm with a free screening of Equinox Flower (unrated, 1958; 1 hr 58 mins) at the Clark Art Institute. The film is the final part of the Clark’s series, “Colors of Japan: Cinematic Impressions,” which accompanies the Institute’s exhibition Japanese Impressions: Color Woodblock Prints from the Rodbell Family Collection. The exhibition is on view through April 2.

Equinox Flower director Yasujiro Ozu creates a film in which color—red in particular—is a prime character. A father deals with the marriage of his daughter, and of the confrontation of family and tradition with a changing society. The film is shown in Japanese with English subtitles.

ABOUT THE CLARK

The Clark Art Institute, located in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts, is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts.
