CLARK ART INSTITUTE, IS183 ART SCHOOL JOIN TO PRESENT PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS

January 12, 2017

Williamstown, Massachusetts—Instructors Lucie Castaldo and Cecilia Hirsch of IS183 Art School of the Berkshires present a class at the Clark Art Institute called “Camera-Free Images: Cyanotypes” on Sunday, January 29 at 12:30 pm. The four-hour class will be held in the Clark’s Hunter Studio, located in the Lunder Center at Stone Hill. Tuition is $60 ($55 for Clark and IS183 members) plus a $20 materials fee. For more information and to register, visit IS183.org or call 413 298 5252 x100.

Cyanotypes are photographs set in iron compounds rather than silver. The basic cyanotype process, almost unchanged since 1842, results in cyan-blue prints. After an introduction to this alternative process and its ties to the overall development of photography, students will compose and expose images, using a mix of old or new source materials and approaches. The class will visit the Clark’s galleries for historical context and inspiration.
