CLARK ART INSTITUTE ANNOUNCES HOLIDAY HOURS, ACTIVITIES

Williamstown, MA—The Clark Art Institute, open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am–5 pm, will be closed in observance of Christmas Day on December 25 and New Year’s Day on January 1. The library is open Monday through Friday, 9 am–5 pm until December 23. It will be temporarily closed from December 24 through January 4.

During school vacation week, the Clark hosts a free film festival and a series of free intergenerational yoga classes. Frozen (PG, 109 min.) airs Tuesday, December 30; Fantastic Mr. Fox (PG, 87 min.) airs Wednesday, December 31; and Hugo (PG, 128 min.) airs Friday, January 2. All showtimes are at 2:30 pm in the Clark Center.

Free beginning-level yoga classes will be held Tuesday, December 30, Wednesday, December 31, and Friday, January 2 at 11 am in the Clark Center. Classes are open to ages 10 and up. Bring your own yoga mat or towel.

The Clark Art Institute is one of a small number of institutions globally that is both an art museum and a center for research, critical discussion, and higher education in the visual arts. The Clark opened its expanded facilities on July 4, 2014, unveiling new and enhanced spaces that accommodate the continued growth of the Institute’s programs. Included in this final stage of the project are the new 42,600-square-foot Clark Center designed by Tadao Ando Architect & Associates, expansion and renovation of the original Museum Building and the ongoing renovation of the Manton Research Center by Selldorf Architects, and a sweeping redesign of the grounds by Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architecture. The first phase of the campus expansion project was completed in 2008 with the opening of the Lunder Center at Stone Hill, a striking conservation and exhibitions facility also designed by Tadao Ando.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. Galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm. an Italian libretto by Arturo Colautti, based on the 1849 play Adrienne Lecouvreur by Eugène Scribe and Ernest Legouvé. For the first time at the Met, Anna Netrebko sings the title role of Adriana, the great eighteenth-century actress in love with the military hero Maurizio, sung by Piotr Beczała.

Gianandrea Noseda conducts Cilea’s tragedy, directed by Sir David McVicar, with the action partially set in a working replica of a Baroque theater. The cast also features Anita Rachvelishvili as the Princess of Bouillon, Adriana’s rival for Maurizio’s affections; Ambrogio Maestri as Michonnet, Adriana’s faithful friend; and Carlo Bosi as the duplicitous Abbé.

Now in its thirteenth season, The Met: Live in HD is the Metropolitan Opera’s Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live performances transmitted to theaters in seventy countries around the world. Live telecasts feature the full performance along with backstage interviews and commentary.
