THE CLARK PRESENTS FILM, DISCUSSION ABOUT DUTCH PAINTER JOHANNES VERMEER

For Immediate Release

October 10, 2013

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Vermeer and Music: The Art of Love and Leisure, the final installment of the “EXHIBITION: Great Art on Film” series, airs at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Sunday, October 20 at 3 pm. Tickets are $12 ($10 members and students). Visit clarkart.edu to purchase tickets or call 413 458 0524.

The film takes an in-depth look at the major Vermeer exhibition at the National Gallery in London. Michael Cassin, director of the Clark’s Center for Education in the Visual Arts, introduces the film and hosts a question-and-answer session afterwards.

Johannes Vermeer, painter of the iconic Girl with a Pearl Earring, painted little more than thirty works that still exist. The National Gallery exhibition focuses on his art in relation to music, one of the most popular themes of Dutch painting. The cinema event provides a comprehensive biography of Vermeer and shows in detail many of the artist’s great works.
Hosted by art historian Tim Marlow, Vermeer and Music ventures beyond the gallery with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage.

Due to the construction activity and limited parking at the Clark, visitors should plan to arrive twenty minutes early.
