Diverse Lineup Promises Something for Everyone 

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—A beloved tradition at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute continues this summer with free concerts every Tuesday in July on the South Lawn. All shows begin at 6 pm and are scheduled for five consecutive Tuesdays, July 2–30.

Performers encompass a variety of musical genres, including jazz, bluegrass, soul, and rock. Concertgoers may purchase barbecued fare or bring a picnic dinner.

July 2: Red June. Hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, Red June is well under way to becoming a southern favorite, akin to the Appalachian heirloom apple from which they glean their name. The band recently released their second studio album, Beauty Will Come, to high acclaim and have performed at dozens of shows and festivals across the country. Band members include Will Straughan on dobro, guitar, and vocals; John Cloyd Miller on mandolin, guitar, and vocals; and Natalya Weinstein on fiddle and vocals. Their dynamic sound features striking three-part harmonies, tasteful instrumental work, and soulful songwriting that seamlessly blends bluegrass, old-time, country, and American roots music.

July 9: Across the Pond. Relive the magical music of the British Invasion with Across the Pond, a popular Beatles tribute band that strives to capture the exuberance of a Beatles live show, including later songs the Beatles recorded but never performed in concert. Across the Pond was formed by singer-songwriter Marc Clayton, a versatile musician based in the Saratoga/Glens Falls area whose passion for the Beatles goes back to his childhood attendance at the vigil for John Lennon in December 1980. Clayton is joined by Jonathan Newell, Joe Tucker, and Tim Wozniuk, all veteran musicians with deep roots in the music of the Fab Four. Since early 2009, the band has played numerous concerts at outdoor venues.

July 16: Funk in the Trunk. Based in Bennington, Vermont , Funk in the Trunk is a multicultural celebration of motown, soul, and funk music from the '60s and '70s. The band's members include John Carson on guitar, Nathan Meunier on drums, Joe Wiley on bass, and Nicki Skipper on keyboards and vocals. Vocal accompaniment singers, affectionately known as "The Golden Assets," include Kim Turner, Kiah Morris, and Linda Allard.

July 23: Incendio. The Latin guitar world fusion group Incendio combines a unique alchemy of composition, technique, and performance, intertwining seductive melodies with explosive improvisatory journeys. In the seven critically acclaimed CDs released by the band, the bold, romantic Spanish guitar is at the heart of every track, its timeless sound recast in powerful modern arrangements. Incendio, renowned for their onstage energy and fretboard wizardry, performs more than 150 shows throughout the United States every year.

July 30: The Jammin’ Divas. The Jammin' Divas perform stunning renditions of traditional and contemporary original folk music and elements of improvisation from multiple cultures. Band members Aoife Clancy (Ireland), Becky Chace (United States), Kath Buckell (Australia), Hadar Noiberg (Israel), and Craig Akin (United States) blend stunning three-part harmonies bedded against the plush melodic landscape of the flute and double bass. The Jammin' Divas draw the audience into an experience that transcends the history of three continents by sharing songs and stories of how each country culturally influences and enriches one another.

Gallery hours are extended until 6 pm on Tuesdays. In the event of rain, concerts will be held in the auditorium.

About the Clark

Set amidst 140 acres in the Berkshires, the Clark is one of the few major art museums that also serves as a leading international center for research and scholarship. The Clark presents public and education programs and organizes groundbreaking exhibitions that advance new scholarship.
