Mark Cheetham
University of Toronto
September–December 2000
Mark Cheetham, professor of art history, and Elizabeth Harvey, professor of English and women's studies, pursued a joint project on metaphors of the cave in Western visual culture. They inquired into why it is that the cave has come to embody the notion of a beginning for art history, and asked how notions of interiority have influenced the intellectual pursuit of the nature of the image. This research was done in preparation for an exhibition that was presented in Toronto in 2002.
