Jonathan Rée is a freelance philosopher and historian, holding visiting professorships at Roehampton University and the Royal College of Art. His books include Proletarian Philosophers (New York, 1984), Philosophical Tales (New York, 1988), Heidegger (New York, 1999), and I See a Voice (New York, 2000). He is currently working on a history of philosophical thinking in the English language, designed to bring out its connections with imaginative literature, politics, and the arts. During his period at the Clark, he will be investigating the connections between painting, philosophy, and criticism in the work of the young William Hazlitt.
