Gabriele Finaldi

Gabriele Finaldi has been Deputy Director for Collections and Research at the Museo del Prado in Madrid since 2002. He obtained his doctorate from the Courtauld Institute of Art (1995) and was Curator of Later Italian and Spanish Painting at the National Gallery, London between 1992 and 2002. His research has focused on Spanish and Neapolitan painting in the seventeenth century and, in particular, the work of Jusepe de Ribera (1591–1652). He has curated exhibitions on Canaletto, Orazio Gentileschi, Bartholomé Esteban Murillo, and on various aspects of Italian Baroque Painting. In 2000, he organized "Seeing Salvation: The Image of Christ" at the National Gallery, London. At the Clark, he will be working on the catalogue raisonné of Ribera's drawings.
