Ellen Wiley Todd is associate professor of art history, American studies, women’s studies, and cultural studies at George Mason University. Her new project, The Infamous Blaze: Visual Imagery, Cultural Memory, and the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire, examines the documentary and expressive visual culture of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire to articulate the significance of images as both source and reflection for cultural assertions. Among her previous studies in the intersection of art and visual culture is The New Woman Revised: Painting and Gender Politics on Fourteenth Street (University of California Press, 1993).
