Dick McIntosh is director of the Frick Art and Historical Center in Pittsburgh. He is a student of patronage and of the art market, focusing on late-nineteenth-century America and France. A widely consulted expert on the collecting practices of Henry Clay Frick, the Mellon family, and steel icon Duncan Phillips, McIntosh has been involved with exhibitions ranging in scope from French Realism to contemporary American art. At the Clark, McIntosh will continue his work on a history of the Knoedler gallery, which has played a vital, formative role in the evolution of important American collections, including, of course, that of Robert Sterling Clark.
