A MESSAGE FROM PAULA AND PETER LUNDER

The Lunder Foundation, established by Paula and Peter Lunder, supports many art initiatives, education (including financial aid), and healthcare in and around New England.

“The arrival of Whistler’s Mother at the Clark is a triumph for the museum and art lovers everywhere. It is another important moment as the Clark continues to exhibit outstanding art interpreted and installed by its talented curators.

“We started collecting art more than forty years ago as something we could enjoy together. As our collecting turned into a passion, James McNeill Whistler became the centerpiece of our collection. This has taken us to many wonderful places, including the Smithsonian American Art Museum; the Lunder Whistler Consortium with the Freer-Sackler Gallery; the Art Institute of Chicago; University of Glasgow; the Colby College Museum of Art; and the Clark’s Lunder Center at Stone Hill, to name a few.

“Our association with the Colby College Museum of Art is well known. We have always believed that art should be part of a liberal arts education, which is why we gifted our collection to Colby. The Clark shares the same vision through its interaction with Williams College and through its Lunder student internships.

“Congratulations to the Clark on what we know will be an important and exciting Whistler exhibit this summer.”
