Tanya Sheehan is James M. Gillespie Professor and Chair of the Department of Science, Technology, and Society at Colby College, and Director of Academic and Scholarly Engagement at the Colby College Museum of Art’s Lunder Institute for American Art. Sheehan authored Doctored: The Medicine of Photography in Nineteenth-Century America (Penn State University Press, 2011) and Study in Black and White: Photography, Race, Humor (Penn State University Press, 2018), in addition to editing six books, most recently, Modernism, Art, Therapy (Yale University Press, 2024) with Suzanne Hudson. At the Clark, she will work on a book that explores the subjects of medicine and public health in twentieth-century art by African Americans.
