Join Anne Leonard, Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, for an in-depth discussion of the Clark’s Mosque Lamp by Philippe-Joseph Brocard. Normally on view in the permanent collection galleries, Brocard’s Mosque Lamp is presented in the special exhibition Arabesque.
Free with gallery admission. Plan to arrive early to pre-order and purchase your meal, or bring your own lunch. Limited seating available. Meet at the admissions desk in the Clark Center. 

Bolshoi Ballet in HD: Raymonda
Saturday, February 22, 1:00 pm
One of the world’s premier dance companies brings the artistry and imagination of ballet classics to the big screen. Presented in connection with the exhibition Arabesque, these ballets have thematic ties to the arabesque motif. Janine Parker, artist-in-residence in dance at Williams College, will introduce each ballet. In Raymonda, the King of Hungary, the Saracen Knight, and a corps of crusaders surround the title character in a tale of love and exoticism. (Run time: 3:00)

Performing Artists in Residence Concert
Sunday, February 23, 2:00 pm
Pianist Jeewon Park and cellist Edward Arron return to the Clark for an afternoon of exceptional music. Inspired by the Arabesque exhibition, the afternoon's program includes selections reflecting arabesque motifs in music. A reception follows the performance.

Janine Parker, artist-in-residence in dance at Williams College, will introduce each ballet. In Giselle, a young peasant girl falls for the flirtations of a deceitful nobleman and dies of a broken heart in this ghost-filled ballet. (Run time: 3:30)

Jody Sperling Dance Performance
Sunday, March 1, 2020, 1:00 pm
In conjunction with the Arabesque exhibition, dancer-choreographer Jody Sperling appears live at the Clark to share the artistry of modern dance pioneer Loïe Fuller and explore the arabesque influence on dance. Using fabric, motion, and light, Fuller created a unique art form that made her the embodiment of the Art Nouveau movement. Sperling is the foremost modern interpreter of Fuller’s distinctive choreography.

Dinner and the Show
Saturday, March 14, 2020, 6:00–9:00 pm
Enjoy after-hours access to Arabesque with a private guided gallery tour by exhibition curator Anne Leonard, Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs. Following the tour, join in a communal dinner inspired by the tastes of the Middle East in a special meal prepared by Constellation Culinary, the Clark’s exclusive catering partner. Tour begins at 6 pm, dinner is served at 7 pm, galleries close at 7:15 pm.

Featuring an essay by Anne Leonard, Manton Curator of Prints, Drawings, and Photographs, Arabesquetraces the role of this curvilinear decorative motif through a variety of styles and media in European art. An elegant companion to the exhibition, this sixty-four-page softcover publication includes fifty-seven color illustrations highlighting objects from the show and their influences.
