Exhibition curator Alexis Goodin presents a highlights talk on A Room of Her Own—Women Artist-Activists in Britain, 1875–1945, exploring the spaces artists used—their homes, studios, art schools, and exhibition sites—to further their artistic development and realize their professional ambitions. Goodin pays particular attention to the design work of May Morris and Vanessa Bell, discussing examples of Morris’ embroidery and Bell’s designs for domestic objects, including The Famous Women Dinner Service, a commission that comprised forty-eight portraits of famous historical and contemporary women, completed with fellow artist Duncan Grant.
