ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

The architect and designer Josef Hoffmann and the Wiener Werkstätte are synonymous with the decorative arts revival that occurred in Vienna around 1900. Among Hoffmann's earliest supporters were the families of Karl and Paul Wittgenstein, two of Austria's wealthiest industrialists. From the beginning of Hoffmann's career the family's social and cultural ambitions provided the necessary financial and emotional support for the artist's often radical experiments in design. The exhibition will concentrate on the different commissions for the family from the late 1890s to about 1905 and will include drawings, furniture, and silver.
