SOLD OUT.
Grace Hanselman, curatorial assistant for works on paper, offers a guided exploration of the exhibition Berenice Abbott’s Modern Lens. Born in Ohio in 1898, trained as a photographer in Paris, and then drawn back to the United States in the 1930s, Abbott is one of the most important photographers of the twentieth century. Her striking black-and-white documentary-style photographs capture a sense of society in vibrant flux. This exhibition highlights three major bodies of work within Abbott’s work: her piercing portraits of the Parisian avant-garde, her much-celebrated images of New York City, and her relatively unknown but equally skillful photographs of other cities and towns in the American Northeast.
Advance registration required. Capacity is limited. To register, email [email protected] or call 413 458 0425.
