Curatorial assistant Sophie Kerwin leads members through the paintings and life stories of Guillaume Lethière. Born in Sainte-Anne, Guadeloupe, Lethière was the son of a white plantation owner and an enslaved woman of mixed race. He moved to France in 1774, quickly becoming a star in the art world, exhibiting regularly at the Paris Salon, and serving as the director of the Académie de France in Rome, a member of the Insitut de France, and a professor at the École des Beaux-Arts. Discover the significance of this little-known artist today.

Advance registration required. Capacity is limited. To register, email [email protected] or call 413 458 0425.
