“Contemporary Art Circuits in São Paulo (MAM, MAC, Biennale, Instituto Tomie Othake, SESC, Itaú Cultural, VideoBrasil)”
Ana Magalhães, Contemporary Art Museum, University São Paulo
In this presentation, Ana Magalhães talks about art institutions dedicated to collecting and exhibiting contemporary art in the city of São Paulo—the biggest city in Brazil, and the country's primary art system. She offers three itineraries for visiting museums and cultural centers in the city, where one can see cutting-edge exhibitions and collections of Brazilian contemporary art.
Ana Magalhães is an art historian, curator, professor, and director of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC USP).
This is a prerecorded lecture that will be publicly available starting on January 28.
Mundos da arte no Brasil / Art Worlds of Brazil is a series of pre-recorded lectures that will be posted on the Clark Art Institute and the CIHA websites once a month, beginning in September 2020 and running through June 2021. Each month a researcher from Brazil will discuss an aspect of the Brazilian art world, spanning museums, galleries, collectives, alternative circuits, patrimony, and architecture in which they specialize.
This series is part of a pre-congress for the 35th CIHA World Congress: “Motion: Migrations,” to be held in São Paulo in August 2021 (postponed from September 2020 due to COVID-19). This webinar series aims at making the art environments of Brazil more familiar to congress participants and to a wider public.
Convened by Claudia Mattos Avolese, University of Campinas, and the Research and Academic Program of the Clark Art Institute.
