“The Erosion of History”: Samantha Page on Hung Liu’s Migrant Mother

Hung Liu’s painting Migrant Mother (2015) reimagines Dorothea Lange’s iconic Depression-era photograph; here the materiality of paint draws attention to layers of mediation and imbues the image’s subjects with renewed agency.

Samantha Page has been the program assistant for the Research and Academic Program as well as the assistant editor in the Clark’s Publications Department since 2017. She has a BA from Smith College, where she majored in American studies, minored in art history, and concentrated in museum studies. In fall 2021 she will begin a masters in urban planning at Harvard University.
