The Research and Academic Program presents “The Evolution of Beauty: From Warblers to Warhol.”

In this lecture Richard Prum discusses the aesthetic evolution of sexual displays of birds and presents a coevolutionary framework for aesthetic philosophy of the arts. He argues that a “post-human” view of aesthetic phenomena leads to a richer account of human aesthetics and art history.

Richard Prum is William Robertson Coe Professor of Ornithology and head curator of vertebrate zoology at the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University. He is the author of The Evolution of Beauty (Doubleday, 2017), which was a New York Times Top Ten Book of 2017 and a finalist for the 2018 Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction.
