August 18, 2019

1:00 PM-3:00 PM

The Clark

225 South St
Williamstown, MA 01267

A continuation of the Clark’s collaboration with Jacob’s Pillow brings the revered Martha Graham Dance Company to the Clark’s campus for an afternoon of dance performances that will enliven indoor and outdoor spaces.

Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket for outdoor seating.

Before the performance begins, join members of the  Company  on the Fernández Terrace between 11 am and 1 pm to learn some of  Martha Graham’s iconic poses: no experience necessary. Show off your new “power pose” by taking a picture with a life-size cut-out of Martha Graham herself—and don’t forget to share using #ClarkArt, #MarthaGraham, and #GramYourGraham.

The day's program includes: Diversion of Angels (1948), Lamentation (1930),  and Ekstasis (1933) from Graham's original choreography. In addition, the Company will present The 19 Poses (2019),a structured improvisation arranged by Artistic Director Janet Eilber and the dancers created in celebration of the upcoming centenary of the adoption of the nineteenth amendment granting American women the right to vote.

The Martha Graham Dance Company has been a world leader in the development of contemporary dance since its founding in 1926. The Company embraces a new vision that showcases masterpieces by Graham alongside newly commissioned works by contemporary artists. With programs that offer a rich thematic narrative, the Company creates new platforms for contemporary dance and multiple points of access for audiences.

Free; no reservations required.
