Public Conversation, " Time and Variability in African Art?"

Time-based media is a term that has emerged in recent years to describe certain works of art, such as video. All too often, however, how the artist has worked with time to set the context, pace, and framing is seen as a by-product of a medium rather than the central strategy in the creation of an artwork. Scholars, curators, and artists will explore the situational nature of time and address its aesthetic, practical, and theoretical concerns in a two-day colloquium to be held at the Clark. This public conversation will be the culminating event of the colloquium. Participants will share their perspectives, engage in dialogue, and answer questions in the convivial atmosphere of the Clark Café. The conversation is generously supported by the Clark's Mellon Foundation grant.
