A consummate man of letters, Phillip Lopate has published works of fiction and nonfiction—poetry, memoir, biography, and criticism—and edited standard anthologies of film criticism and personal essays, as well as teaching writing at Columbia University and other colleges. He will read from work in progress and talk about modesty and self-assertion in the development of a writer’s persona, as well as taking questions and signing books. The Profession of Words is a free series of author appearances, devoted to the special challenges of making a career in writing.
