Leatrice Mendelsohn

April - May 2000

Leatrice Mendelsohn is an independent scholar from New York.  While in residence for one month, she polished the manuscript of a book-in-progress, Signifying Style: Meaning and Practice in the Italian Mannerist Workshop. This project, in which Mendelsohn engages in a series of case histories of painting practices that aimed to transmit meaning through style, offers correctives to the art historical tendency not to comprehend the meanings of style and their diverse ways of functioning in this period.
