The focus of Andreas Beyer's research has been Italian Renaissance art, but he has also become an authority on Wolfgang von Goethe and the visual arts. He studied the latter as one of the first Clark Fellows. He has organized a number of important conferences and in 1999 became co-editor of the Deutsche Zeitschrift fur Kunstgeschichte, the leading German-language scholarly journal in the discipline. In addition to having been a Clark Fellow, Beyer served as speaker in 1999's Two Art Histories conference and as Clark Professor of the History of Art in Spring 2000.
