Modernism, Realism, Revisionism

 May 22 - 23, 2000

Each of the participants in this gathering, organized by Janet Wolff of the University of Rochester, has all played an important role in rethinking modernism in British and American art over the past decade. The group pursued questions to do with the extent of current 'revisions' of the modernist canon with respect to both critical practice and curating.

Participants included: Rachael Arauz (Williams College), Tim Barringer (Yale University), David Peters Corbett (University of York, York, UK), John Davis (Smith College), Leanne Gilbertson (University of Rochester), Mark Haxthausen (director, Williams College Graduate Program in Art History), Anthony Lee (Mount Holyoke College), Michael Leja (MIT), Nancy Mowll Mathews (Williams College Museum of Art), Laurie Norton Moffatt (director, Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge), Elizabeth Prettejohn (University of Plymouth, Devon, UK), Kathleen Pyne (University of Notre Dame), Dan Reyes (University of Rochester), Claire Sykes (University of Rochester), Lisa Tickner (Middlesex University, Hertfordshire, UK), Sylvia Yount (Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts), and Rebecca Zurier (University of Michigan).
