Notes:
Like many of Bonnard’s paintings from this period, Women with Dog evokes a world of innocence and simplicity, showing children and animals together in a sort of golden age. In this picture the two girls and a dog concentrate on what appears to be a bunch of chrysanthemums. The interest in decorative pattern and the tilted-up perspective show the influence of Japanese prints, which were especially popular in Paris at the turn of the century.
