Visual Resource CollectionThe Photograph and Slide Library maintains a collection of slides, photographs, clippings, and microform reproductions of works of art for both teaching and research. These holdings are primarily for the use of the research and academic programs supported by the Institute but are available to the public for consultation during the library's public hours. The Photograph CollectionThe photograph collection contains over 3 million photographs, reproductions, microfilm and microfiche images of works of art and architecture. It includes a large body of material from European and American auction and dealers' sales catalogues dating from the 1920s through the 1960s that was acquired from the Dutch art historian W.R. Juynboll. The collection also comprises microfiche editions, including the Alinari Photo Archive (over 120,000 photographs) and the Bildarchiv Foto Marburg (over 1.5 million photographs). The photograph collection is housed in the library's open stacks with microform viewers and study areas near by. The Slide CollectionThe collection of over 145,000 slides provides in-depth coverage of the history of European and American painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and the graphic arts from the Renaissance to the present. The slide collection serves the Williams College faculty and students as well as the programs of the Clark and the Williams College Museum of Art. |
