One of the most technically innovative artists in the Clark collection, Toulouse-Lautrec was one of Sterling and Francine's favorite artists. Featured works by the artist include an oil portrait of the Moulin Rouge dancer Jane Avril as well as several rare lithographs, including a complete edition of the series Elles. Alongside prints, drawings, and paintings by Toulouse-Lautrec—not seen to this extent at the Clark for over fifteen years—the exhibition also includes related works by Edgar Degas, Jean-Louis Forain, Théophile Alexandre Steinlen, and Jules Chéret. Toulouse-Lautrec and Paris brings the fin-de-siècle world of entertainment to life, showcasing Toulouse-Lautrec's magnificent capacity for both quiet intimacy and theatrical flair in a variety of media.
