Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
French, 1864–1901
Oil on canvas
Acquired by Sterling and Francine Clark, 1951

"Fabulous use of a variety of colors of black. Sensitive capturing of one of Toulouse–Lautrec's favorite models. Wonderful rendering of the red hair against the black background and the paleness of her face, which has a rather blank and haunted look. A small masterpiece in every way."
