The Clark Comes Alive on the Evening of August 11

For Immediate Release

July 31, 2007

Night at the Museum – see the movie and experience a free night at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. On Saturday, August 11, from 5 to 11 pm, families can explore the Clark at night enjoying a film, hike, fantastical fun in the galleries, and campfire complete with s’mores and ghost stories. Barbecue food will be available for purchase. Activities and admission to the galleries are free during this event.

Kick off the evening with a family-friendly hike on the Clark’s 140-acre campus. At 5 pm staff of the Mountain Goat will lead a hike through the woods to view the new Stone Hill Center opening next summer.

Hungry after your hike up Stone Hill? Barbecue food will be available for purchase from 4 to 7 pm. Grab hamburgers, hotdogs, and veggie burgers, and take a seat at one of many picnic tables on the grounds.

From 7 to 9 pm watch as Ben Stiller leads an all-star cast in Night at the Museum (2006, 108 minutes, rated PG), the hilarious blockbuster hit about a night watchman and an ancient curse at the Museum of Natural History in New York. Night at the Museum also stars Owen Wilson, Robin Williams, Dick Van Dyke, and Mickey Rooney.

There’s no curse at the Clark (as far as we know…) but see what happens from 9 to 10 pm when the sun goes down and the galleries come alive. Drury High School Drama Club actors will bring to life figures in eight works of art in the Clark’s collection. Engage with the works of art as you never have before and see what happens at the Clark at night. Curators will be on hand to answer any questions that may arise from these after hours encounters.

Complete the evening of adventure with a roaring campfire, tasty s’mores, and spooky tales by master storyteller Frank Oakley from 10 to 11 pm.

All outdoor activities are weather permitting.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open daily in July and August, 10 am to 5 pm (open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm September through June). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
