Accomplished multi-instrumental singer/songwriters Nathan Knowles and Deena Smith, along with well-known local musician and recording artist, Fred Lantz, will play their unique blend of traditional music at a free outdoor concert at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute on Tuesday, July 31 at 6 pm. Gather family and friends, picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs and head to the Clark’s expansive south lawn to enjoy the last outdoor concert of the summer. The galleries will remain open until 6 pm. Light barbeque fare will be available for purchase. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the auditorium.

With long histories of solo and ensemble work in a wide variety of musical genres, the Curley Headed Rascals is one of the most dynamic acts anywhere. Smith's voice combines smooth power with a delicate fragility that always captivates listeners. Knowles's vocals are richly textured and filled with expression. The interplay between her mandolin and his guitar work is energetic and inspired, and their original compositions are a highlight of their live performances. The band’s versatility allows them to spice up their shows with forays into folk, rock, blues, country, bluegrass and a bit of everything in between, including a wealth of classic songs from the swing and jazz era infused with fresh energy and an approach that is sure to please all.

The combo has enjoyed successful cross-country tours during the past two years where they performed in a variety of venues and on radio shows in Kansas, Illinois, Colorado, and New Mexico. They have also recently released their latest CD “Songbird.” Their eclectic repertoire features songs by artists such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Django Reinhardt, Johnny Mercer, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, and Delbert McClinton.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open daily from 10 am to 5 pm in July and August (closed Mondays September through June). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
