The Clark’s Free Outdoor Concert Series Kicks Off with the Patriotic Sounds of the Eagles Band on July 3

For Immediate Release

June 22, 2007

A patriotic sing-along with The Eagles Band, a local favorite, kicks off the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s summer outdoor concert series on Tuesday, July 3. Gather family and friends, picnics, blankets, and lawn chairs and head to the Clark’s expansive south lawn to enjoy free concerts on Tuesday evenings in July. The galleries remain open until 6 pm on concert evenings. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the auditorium.

In celebration of Independence Day, The Eagles Band’s performance will feature patriotic pieces. The Eagles Band, founded in 1936, is the oldest continuing performance ensemble in the Berkshires and the official band of the city of Pittsfield. The band was originally sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #358, but traces its roots to the 390th Field Artillery Band (1918). The 390th disbanded in the late 1920s and many of its members formed the Pittsfield American Legion Band, which produced a group that started rehearsing at the Eagles hall in 1936. This group, with deep local roots, became The Eagles Band.

On band concert evenings, barbeque fare will be available for purchase. Enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chips, ice cream, and strawberry shortcake.

Upcoming concerts include Skip Parsons and his Riverboat Jazz Band on July 10; Girl Howdy on July 17; The Flown Home Band on July 24; and the Curley Headed Rascals on July 31. Williamstown Savings Bank is the media sponsor of the concerts.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, MA. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $12.50 for adults, free for children 18 and under, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
