Clark Admission Passes Donated to Berkshire Area Libraries
For Immediate Release
July 31, 2006
Continuing its commitment to the community, the Clark once again donated family admission passes to over 30 Berkshire public libraries. The family pass gives free admission to two adults allowing them to visit for free with their children during the admission season (June 1 through October 31). Just as with a book or video, the pass is checked out of the library and returned after its use. The pass includes entry to the summer exhibition The Clark Brothers Collect: Impressionist and Early Modern Paintings, the fall exhibition Alpine Views: Alexandre Calame and the Swiss Landscape, and the permanent collection. Admission to the Clark is always free for children 18 and under and students with valid ID, and free for all November 1 through May 31.
Featuring over 70 paintings, the special exhibition The Clark Brothers Collect: Impressionist and Early Modern Paintings is the first exhibition to unite the masterpieces collected by Sterling Clark – works by Renoir, Monet, Homer and Sargent, and more – with those collected by his brother Stephen Clark, including paintings by Cézanne, Van Gogh, Matisse and Picasso. The exhibition examines the brothers’ collecting and how they helped to define the changing taste for Impressionist and Early Modern art in the first half of the 20th century. It explores their relationship, their rivalry, and the influential but ultimately divergent roles they came to play in the arts in the United States. The Clark Brothers Collect is on view through September 4.
Opening October 8, Alpine Views: Alexandre Calame and the Swiss Landscape offers a breathtaking look at some of Switzerland’s most beautiful, dramatic, and recognizable vistas. This is the first American exhibition to focus on 19th century Swiss landscape paintings. Featuring over 26 sensuous works by Alexandre Calame (1810-1864), as well as 27 by his predecessors, contemporaries, and followers, the exhibit provides a comprehensive overview of the Swiss landscape tradition. Alpine Views is on view through December 31.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open daily 10 am to 5 pm (closed on Mondays from September to June). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
