Free Outdoor Concert at the Clark Features the Old Time Bluegrass Singers on July 11

For Immediate Release

June 29, 2006

Free concerts on the inviting south lawn of the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute continue on Tuesday evenings through July. Gather your friends and family, picnics, lawn chairs, and blankets for great evenings of summer outdoor fun. The crowd-pleasing concerts are free. Food will be available for purchase. On Tuesday, July 11 at 6 pm, the Old Time Bluegrass Singers take the stage.

This dynamic acoustic band features the powerful vocal harmonies and instrumental work associated with the classic traditional bluegrass style. Performing a mix of classic country and bluegrass, mixed with "new tunes" from all sorts of sources, the Old Time Bluegrass Singers have a unique repertoire. While able to perform hundreds of bluegrass standards, they've worked up little-heard jewels of old time country and bluegrass music, plus drawing on new sources from outside the genre. Having just released “Threads” in early 2006, band members include Lillian Fraker, Dave Kiphuth, Dick Bowden and Herb Applin, and other special guest performers.

Other concerts in the series will feature the Woods Tea Company on July 18 and Dr. Fidgety on July 25. In the event of rain, the concerts will be held in the Clark’s auditorium.

On band concert evening the galleries remain open until 6 pm for those wishing to visit the permanent collection or the special blockbuster exhibition, The Clark Brothers Collect: Impressionist and Early Modern Paintings. This exhibition is the first tounite the masterpieces collected by Sterling Clark—works by Renoir, Monet, Homer, Sargent, and more—alongside those collected by his brother, Stephen Clark, including paintings by Hopper, Matisse, Cézanne, Hopper, and Picasso. On view through September 4, this exhibition features over 70 paintings and explores the Clark brothers’ relationship, their rivalry, and the influential but ultimately divergent roles they came to play in the arts in the United States.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission June 1 through October 31 is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. Admission is free November through May.
