Party at the Clark After Dark During Monthly Themed Revelries
For Immediate Release
December 08, 2005
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute’s “Clark After Dark” quartet of winter revelries will take guests far from the New England winter and spring thaw and into worlds made all the rage by pop-culture. Each party will be different, with theme-based food, signature drinks, movies, games, and activities. Make a date with “Lady Luck” and grab your cufflinks and high heels as the Clark After Dark series kicks off with the theme of “Viva Las Vegas” on Friday, January 6, 8 pm to midnight. Tickets are $10 ($8 for members) per evening and are available at the door, or by reservation at 413-458-0524 or email@example.com.
At “Clark After Dark: Viva Las Vegas” game tables will be hot and drinks will be icy. Enter a glitzy, hip world immortalized by movies and stand-up comics. Learn how to become a high roller in blackjack and poker, and test your luck at the roulette table and money wheel. Guests will receive $500 in play chips with which to gamble and win raffle tickets.
The Lustre Kings, on their Elvis Birthday Bash Tour, will keep the dance floor filled with their rockabilly sounds. “A cold beer, a hot date, and The Lustre Kings. Real roots rock and roll never sounded so good,” said Michael Eck of the Times Union.
For those needing a break from the tables but not the scene, Martin Scorsese’s 1995 film Casino (running time 178 minutes), starring Robert De Niro, Sharon Stone, and Joe Pesci, will be on the big screen at 9 pm in the Clark’s auditorium.
A highlight of the evening will be a rare after-dark peek of the Clark’s print room. With an impressive holding of over 5,000 works on paper, the Clark’s collection of prints, drawings, and photographs includes masterpieces by Picasso, Cézanne, Degas, Bonnard, Stieglitz, Rembrandt, Lartigue, Whistler, and many other great artists. On view will be a theme-specific collection hand-picked for the evening.
Continuing the “after hours” gallery viewing made popular at this summer’s 50 Hours weekend, the Clark’s galleries will be open until midnight offering late-night rendezvous with masterpieces.
Snacks and soft drinks will be provided. A cash bar will be available as well as additional food for sale.
The Clark After Dark carousing continues with “Club Tokyo” on February 3, “Venetian Carnivale” on March 3, and the “Last Days of Pompeii” on April 7.
The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm (daily in July and August). Admission is free November through May. Admission June 1 through October 31 is $10 for adults, free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID.
