Get The Scoop on the Lives of Artists atthe "Artist Cafe"
For Immediate Release
December 22, 2004
This January, the Clark will introduce a new evening program, the "Artist Café." Hosted by Danielle Steinmann, assistant curator of education, the Artist Café combines a cocktail hour with an intimate slide talk in a cabaret-style setting. Each program, offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on four alternate Thursday evenings will feature "the scoop" on a different artist and a signature cocktail. The first program on Thursday, January 6, will be "The Secret Life of John Singer Sargent," with Sargent Bellinis. Admission is $15, which includes the talk, light snacks, after-hours access to the galleries, and featured cocktail or beer and wine. Admission is free to members. For reservations, call 413-458-0524; walk-ins are also welcome.
"We hope that people will come to the Clark after work, mingle with friends, and maybe meet new people," said Steinmann. "The idea behind the talks is 'the true Hollywood story' of the artist, to keep it casual and fun."
Upcoming topics will be "The Passionate Life of Winslow Homer," with Homer Seabreezes on January 20; "The Cowboy Life of Frederic Remington" with Remington 'Ritas on February 3, and "The Cosmopolitan Life of Mary Cassatt" with Cassatt Cosmopolitans on February 17. Each talk will begin at 6:30 with social time before and after.
Danielle Steinmann joined the Clark staff this past summer. She was previously program coordinator in the education department at the Massachusetts Cultural Council. She has also worked as a consultant to the Harvard University Art Museums' education department. Steinmann graduated cum laude from Wellesley College and received her MA in the History of Art from the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University.
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5p.m. Gallery admission is free through May. For more information call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
