Free Screening of Anthony Minghella’s “Gorgeously Unsettling” Film The Talented Mr. Ripley

For Immediate Release

January 11, 2012

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—Escape to the Neapolitan coast, and then to Rome and Venice with a free screening of The Talented Mr. Ripley at the Clark on Sunday, January 15 at 2:00 pm.  In Anthony Minghella’s psychological thriller, Matt Damon envies the privileged life of rich American ex-pat Jude Law and covets his girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow. He goes to extreme and increasingly ruthless lengths to make Law's privileges his own. Cate Blanchett and Philip Seymour Hoffman round out the superb cast. Nominated for five Academy Awards, The Talented Mr. Ripley is “a gorgeously unsettling film. You can hide in the shadows, but luminescence exposes who you are, and the only escape is into another identity” (New York Magazine). This film will be presented in full widescreen and HD.

In the midst of a Williamstown winter, everyone craves a bit of escape. Let the Clark transport you from the realm of snow and ice to islands of sun and sand, from the Pacific to the Mediterranean to the Caribbean, with the free Escapist Entertainment film series offered in the auditorium on select Sunday afternoons in January and February. Warning: An island paradise is not always what you might expect. The epigraph of one of these films says it all: “In times like these, escape is the only way to stay alive and keep dreaming.” The film series continues with Dr. No on January 22, Mediterraneo on February 5, and Heading South on February 19.
