WILLIAMSTOWN, MA—The Clark opens Picasso Looks at Degas exhibition after hours for an intimate gallery talk with Kathy Morris, director of exhibitions and collections and curator of decorative arts. The final “Cocktails with Picasso and Degas” event is an exceptional opportunity to view the groundbreaking exhibition exploring Picasso’s response to Degas’s work. The private event takes place on Wednesday, August 11 at 5:00 pm and includes a wine-and-cheese reception. Space is limited and reservations are required. Cost for the event is $40 (includes all-day admission) ($25 members). RSVP online clarkart.edu or call 413 458 0524.

As administrative head of the exhibitions program, Morris plays a central role in creating the Clark’s special exhibition programs. During this gallery talk, she will share her insights into the development of the Picasso Looks at Degas exhibition. She received her Ph.D. in Art History from the University of Virginia and spent many years as a member of the exhibitions and curatorial staff at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts before joining the Clark.

Picasso Looks at Degas, on view June 13 through September 12, 2010, brings together more than one hundred works from international museums and private collections to explore the depth of the Spanish artist’s fixation with Degas through dramatic pairings and groupings of the two artists’ works. The Clark is the exclusive North American venue for the exhibition; it will be presented at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona in the fall of 2010.

Picasso Looks at Degas was organized by the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute and the Museu Picasso, Barcelona. It is supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, an indemnity from the Federal Council on the Arts and the Humanities, and with the special cooperation of Fundación Almine y Bernard Ruiz- Picasso para el Arte.

The Clark is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open daily in July and August, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission is $15 June 1 through October 31. Admission is free for children 18 and younger, members, and students with valid ID. For more information, call 413 458 2303 or visit clarkart.edu.
