Clark Art Institute to Offer Viennese Biergarten on Four Fridays in June and July
For Immediate Release
June 10, 2002
Live music, Austrian and German fare, and an outdoor setting will create the atmosphere of an authentic Viennese Biergarten at the Clark Art Institute on four Fridays, June 21, June 28, July 5, and July 12. From 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., the Biergarten will serve a variety of Austrian and German beers and wines, wursts, and light fare under an outdoor tent. Live music by the Bavarian Barons will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Bavarian Barons perform authentic Bavarian, German, and Austrian folk music in the tradition of central European brass bands. Their music is inspired by peasant folk dances, yodeling in the Alps, and marches performed in Berlin, Vienna, or Prague.
Clark members will receive a 15% discount on all Biergarten food purchases (alcoholic beverages not included).
Visitors may combine their Biergarten visit with a film from the Clark's "Projections of Vienna" film series, presented every Friday at 4:00 p.m. The films offered on the Biergarten evenings are: Amadeus (1984, 158 minutes) on June 21; Immortal Beloved (1994, 121 minutes) on June 28; Mahler (1974, 102 minutes) on July 5; and The Great Waltz (1938, 106 minutes) on July 12. Amadeus will be screened in a special showing at Images Cinema in Williamstown (regular Images ticket prices apply); all other films are shown free of charge in the Clark Art Institute auditorium.
The Viennese Biergarten is offered in connection with four exhibitions celebrating the art and architecture of Vienna. Gustav Klimt Landscapes, Josef Hoffmann: Homes of the Wittgensteins, Bernardo Bellotto: Views of Imperial Vienna, and Otto Wagner: The Academy of Fine Arts.
The Clark's Vienna exhibitions are part of "The Vienna Project," a six-month series of exhibitions, programs, and special events celebrating the rich and vibrant art and culture of Vienna in the beautiful setting of the Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts.
