The Trio Parnassus, with guest Jon Manasse, clarinet, will perform Messiaen's "Quartet for the End of Time" on Sunday, March 5, at 3:00 p.m., at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. Also on the program are Schumann's Trio #2 in F, Op. 80, and Schubert's Adagio in E-flat Major. Tickets are $15 ($10 for members, $5 for students) and are available by calling 413-458-2303, extension 324.
Hailed for their "expressive range and miles of musicality and musicianship," the Trio Parnassus has over eighty works in its concert repertoire and has recorded fifteen CDs on the distinguished German label Dabringhaus and Grimm.
In a review of their recording of the complete trios of Joseph Rheinberger, American Record Guide said "there is no question that this is a world-class Trio. They play with superb unanimity of ensemble and consummate polish. This is a major release in the field of chamber music." After gaining a reputation in Europe, the Trio made their United States debut in 1996, touring such venues as Lincoln Center, the Frick Collection, the Caramoor Center for Music and the Arts, and the National Gallery of Art. Trio members are pianist Chia Chou, violinist Wolfgang Schröder, and cellist Michael Gross.
Joining the Trio Parnassus on March 5 will be clarinetist Jon Manasse, whose recent solo appearances include performances at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Hunter College's Sylvia and Danny Kaye Playhouse, Columbia University, and tours of Japan and Southeast Asia. He has performed with the New York Symphonic Ensemble, the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra, and the Augsburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Manasse is principal clarinetist of both the New York Chamber Symphony and the American Ballet Theater Orchestra.
The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute is located at 225 South Street in Williamstown, Massachusetts. The galleries are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission is free through May. For more information call 413-458-2303 or visit www.clarkart.edu.
