Curator Jay A. Clarke explores the experimental nature of modern drawing practice from Symbolist Odilon Redon to Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock. Clarke addresses a range of modern drawings, including the large-scale chalk and charcoal drawings of Redon, pastels by Edgar Degas and Paul Gauguin, densely worked pen and ink drawings by Henri Matisse, and the abstract, biomorphic sheets by Pollock.
